The journal is for the in-between parts: the uncertainty before a project has a shape, the small decision that saves a week, and the mistake that becomes a method.
It does not need to be polished every time. It needs to be honest enough to help future work.
A useful rule
If an idea is too unfinished for a guide but too useful to forget, it belongs in the journal.
